在美國注冊公司，經營范圍沒有太多限制，只要是法律不禁止的都可以從事。某些行業需要特別許可才能從事，如銀行，信托，保險等行業。
很多州不要求在注冊證書上寫明經營范圍，例如加州，其注冊證書上會寫如下字眼：

有些州需要明確經營范圍，對其所從事的經營范圍要寫明，如在馬里蘭，注冊公司時需要在證書上體現公司主要從事哪方面業務，以下是一家馬里蘭公司注冊證書上有關經營范圍的書寫：
The corporation is formed to thee following purposes: a leading online commerce business specializing in providing laptop accessories,phone parts,home and garden products.
但是公司注冊成立之后，具體從事業務是要取得相關牌照。
主要經營業務填好后，如果之后的業務類型不相符，以后還可以更改。
